webui, bus, project: a Console editor for the project's spec and docs (row 148, #1642)

Row 148 round 3, Researcher's candidate (agents/researcher/work/queue-148/,
row148.patch 1b63164b, manifest 95ae4736, 27 paths, base 18aee8fa1).
Dewey approved round 3 (comment 28832) and Filbert approved it with no
findings (28835). Mos gave the decision 123 go on public diff 8360122b
(mos-0636): no vendored code, no innerHTML or other HTML sinks.

The Docs page #/docs lists each project's spec/north-star.md and the
Markdown files directly under docs/. Save writes the typed text as one
local commit authored by business.human, through a new human-only bus
verb project.file.save that carries the opened commit as base and
refuses stale-base if the file moved. The preview is a textarea plus a
renderer built with createElement and textContent only; raw HTML shows
as source text and images never load. CSP is unchanged.

Round 3 replaced the backreference HR regex, which overflowed the
regexp stack, with an isRule scan. Round 4 added a textContent fallback
when paintDoc throws, and the submit handler resets saving in a finally.
Mos's rule (ceiling 1 s at 1 MiB, growth x3 per doubling over 1 to
4 MiB): 130/130 and 138/138 cells pass, worst 513 ms at 1 MiB, worst
ratio x2.50, control x2.01; the 756-cell grid has 0 timeouts. Mutants
43/44, v21 equivalent.

Follow-ups: Vikunja P19 tasks 318 (Save stays off after a non-render
paint throw), 319 (dead NUL check in bus.js) and 320 (the 1 MiB + 64 KiB
buffer before the human proof, Gitea #1650).

Sage's landing gate ran on a4779d2a5 plus the candidate: 25 steps,
all rc 0 (15 packages, 10 script suites), 22:19:24Z to 22:24:09Z,
network sage-r148g_default removed.

It is the human bus verb `project.file.save` through the human transport; an agent

Row 148 (#1642) adds three human-only verbs for the Console's spec and docs editor:
`project.files {project}`, `project.file {project,path}` and `project.file.save
{project, path, base, content}`. Each refuses an agent session, a reader and a tester
(`human-required`) and takes exactly those keys; the two file verbs refuse a path
other than spec/north-star.md or docs/NAME.md. `project.file` answers `{path,head,commit,content,

`writeHumanFile` made its one commit, or a `stale-base` refusal that wrote nothing.
Every refusal is recorded as the others are. The save verb alone may carry a request
up to 1 MiB + 64 KiB (the client and the server both check it); every other verb
keeps the 64 KiB envelope. Tests: `packages/bus/tests/project-files.test.mjs`.
The 3e→3f offline step adds nullable spec_path/spec_commit columns to decisions,
with nulls on existing rows. It changes no event or resolution and creates no

API is added; row 148 owns the human editor writer and its stale-base check.
project-id/path/not-declared/repository/remote/git codes. These reads write
nothing; the human writer is the next section.
## The human editor writer (row 148)
`listProjectFiles({business,project,dataRoot})` returns `{head, files:[{path}]}`:
spec/north-star.md and the Markdown files directly under docs/ (name
`[A-Za-z0-9][A-Za-z0-9._-]{0,127}.md`), as committed at HEAD and in path order. An
uncommitted file, a subdirectory, a non-Markdown file and a link are not listed.
`documentPath(path)` is the one definition of those paths, shared by the reads and
the writer.
`writeHumanFile({business,project,dataRoot,path,content,base})` is the Console
editor's save. It replaces the whole text of an existing document with `content` and
makes one local commit, `Edit <path>`, authored by `business.human`. Only the human
bus verb `project.file.save` calls it; the agent writer (`writeRecord`) is
unchanged and still refuses spec/. It never creates a file, never pushes and
creates no remote.
`base` is the full commit the editor opened: the file's last commit at HEAD. If the
file's last commit is any other, the writer refuses `stale-base` and writes nothing,
whoever made the newer commit. The check runs under the same exclusive lock and the
same clean-tree rules as the agent writer, so a tree with pending changes refuses
`project-dirty` and a concurrent writer `project-busy`. Other refusals:
`project-record-path` (a path outside the two), `project-record-invalid` (empty
content, a NUL, text that is not well-formed UTF-8, over 1 MiB, or a `base` that is
not a full commit id) and `project-read-missing` (no such document).
Tests: `packages/project/tests/human-file.test.mjs`.

redacted only up to that space and the rest shows. A bare `~` or `~user/`
is not treated as a path, and neither is a relative path.
## Spec and docs editor (row 148, #1642)
The Docs page (`#/docs`) lists, for each project of the business, spec/north-star.md and
the Markdown files directly under docs/. A file opens at `#/docs/<project>/<path>` with
its current commit. The page is a `<textarea>` that holds the Markdown source and a
preview beside it. Save writes exactly what was typed, as one local commit authored by
the business's human; the page then shows the new commit. Nothing is pushed.
Each save carries the commit the editor opened. If the file's last commit has moved on
since, the save refuses `stale-base`, nothing is written, and the page says to reload the
file and make the edit again. The draft stays in the box. Reload discards the draft and
reads the file again. A draft survives a refresh and a visit to another page; a file
with no unsaved change is read again when it is opened. The 10 s refresh is off on the
editor so it can't touch a draft. A file with a NUL character never opens: the project's
read refuses it (`project-read-content`), so the page has no draft to show. A file
with CRLF line ends saves with LF, and the page says so. The page does not create files
or open any other path. A tree with pending changes refuses the save (`project-dirty`).
The preview is built by `markdown-preview.js` with `createElement` and `textContent`
only. It never calls `innerHTML`, `outerHTML`, `insertAdjacentHTML` or `document.write`
(a test reads the file for all four), so it needs no sanitizer. Headings, paragraphs,
lists, block quotes, code blocks, inline code, emphasis and links render. Everything
else, raw HTML included, shows as the source text. A link is made only for an `http:`,
`https:` or relative target, with `rel="noopener noreferrer"`, and the target is shown
beside the link text. A target with a space, a control or bidirectional character, a
backslash or a leading `//` stays text. An image shows its alt text and URL and is
never loaded. Each render has a look-ahead budget of 32 characters examined per
character of text (at least 1 Mi): an opener with no closer searches at most 2000
characters, and the budget caps the total over a whole file. Once it is spent, every
later link, image, code span and emphasis shows as its source text, so a hostile file
can slow the editor by a fixed multiple of its length and no more. Nothing is vendored
and the Content-Security-Policy is unchanged; the choice against a bundled editor is
recorded in `agents/researcher/work/queue-148/LIBRARY.md`.
Routes: GET `/api/project-files?project=` and GET `/api/project-file?project=&path=`
run the human transport like the other reads (400 for a bad query, 503 with no bus, 502
for an unusable answer). POST `/api/project-file` exists only under `--send` and has the
Settings boundary: the signed-in user's header, the exact `https://<public host>`
Origin, `Sec-Fetch-Site: same-origin`, a JSON body of at most 1 MiB with exactly the
string keys `project`, `path`, `base` and `content`. The 16 KiB limit of the message
route is unchanged. GET `/api/config` now also returns `edit`, true when saving is
available; without it the source is read-only and Save is off. An answer is
`{path, commit, at}`, a refusal `{error, message, sent:false}`, and an answer that is
lost or unusable is `sent:"unknown"`: the page keeps the draft, says the save may have
gone through, and sends nothing again. The log line names the project, path and
outcome, never the content.
Tests: `project-file.test.mjs` (the routes), `markdown-preview.test.mjs` (the sink
check, each element, the scheme rules, the look-ahead budget) and `docs-browser.test.mjs`
(markdown with `<script>`, `onerror` and `javascript:` runs nothing; the draft, each
save receipt, the stale-base message, sign-out and read-only mode).
## Data and boundaries
